Spring/ summer 2017

The leaves on the trees are starting to change color and starting to fall. That means, unfortunately, that summer is over again. The days are getting shorter and we will not cycle as much anymore. Despite that summer didn’t bring us a lot of good weather, we still managed to make some kilometers/miles. But most of those kilometers/miles were ridden during vacations.

We went to Gran Canaria for 2 week in March/ April to enjoy and ride in the sunny warmth. We brought our own roadbikes and cycled beautiful routes and made many kilometers/miles and altimeters.

This also was preparation of the very cold and wet Amstel Gold Race that we cycled mid April; 150 cold and rainy kilometers (90 miles), but we finished.

Spring brought us a lot of cold and rainy weather, so we didn’t cycle a lot. We only went out for 1 weekend and did some short rides in our area.

We had a 3 week vacation in June and we decided at the last moment we were going to Sweden and Norway. Again to beautiful Scaninavia, we just can’t stay away from there. We rode through Sweden on mostly unpaved roads through forests and along lakes for over a week, and then crossed into beautiful rugged and cold Norway where we also rode mostly unpaved roads. You’ll find an impression of this trip on this site. Click here for Sweden, click here for Norway (and click on the flag).

Juli and August also weren’t great months to cycle a lot at home. Fortunately, we still had September; 4 weeks off. We mounted the roadbikes on the bikerack, loaded the car with campinggear and head off for France. First to the Alpes, to 2 different places. We climbed some mountains there, for example the Galibier, Croix de Fer, Izoard and Agnel. The mountains just keep being such a beautiful world.

Then we went to the Mediterranean to ride in the hills and under the warm sun. But unfortunately the weather wasn’t what is was supposed to be and what would be expected, so we went a bit north for the last couple of days.

To the area of the Mont Ventoux, where it was warmer. Of course we rode up the mountain, which was a very long and steep climb, but there also were a few other routes to ride in the area.

Unfortunately that was vacation for now. We’re back home and back to work. We’ll have all winter to make plans for next year.
