On a beautiful bike path along the river, we cycled past Steamboat. After a paved section we turned onto an unpaved road. We rode through a beautiful area of forest, hills, mountains and some farmland. In Stagecoach State Park we had to cross a dam which led us to a very nice single track with nice picknick spots. Where the path got back on the road, there was another cooler with water and packs of nuts. The water was really nice, because there wouldn’t be any water for 2 days again so we already carried extra water again.
We camped at the top of Lynx Pass. We had to share the otherwise empty campground with an ACA group that would cycle the section Steamboat to Salida. We were invited for dinner, breakfast and campfire and they gave us some water the next day. We would run into them more often.
Ater more hills and another climb, we descended all the way tot he Colorado river, where we saw a few rafting groups. That, of course, is part of the image of the river. Then we had to go back up through a few long climbs and over Ute Pass before we reached the ski resort Silverthorne. We stayed there for 3 days because the weather forecast was pretty bad, with lots of rain. We didn’t want to go up long and pretty Boreas Pass in the rain, so we stayed.
We booked a room in hostel ‘The Pad’, we had read that that was a great place to stay. An dit definitely was! There was a big kitchen, nice places to sit, a hot tub and a few nights with live music. The ACA group was also there for a restday, but after that 1 day they had to leave, in the rain. We had some wonderful, lazy days, first accompanied by the ACA group. During the rainshowers we could sit in the roof covered hut tub on the balcony and watch the rain fall around us. And there was lots to do in the dry periods.
