(Street)life in Bolivia

Life in Bolivia is on the streets and the (indoor) markets. Besides that there are many very little shops that sell about anything. But the main product they sell is coca leaves (yes, cocaine is really made from these leaves also). Bags full of these leaves are placed in the doorways of the little shops. Here, they chew on them and you can also make tea out of them. Coca tea or chewing on the leaves is supposed to reduces altitude sickness. Maybe we’ll try the tea sometime, we have a bag of leaves. We got them from a guy in Argentina who didn’t want us to get altitude sickness.

There are people everywhere and many scents and colors. Here inTupiza there are different markets, but especially the one with the food is very different for us Europeans. We sometimes don’t know where to look. Many different kinds of fruits and vegetables (of better quality than in many towns in Argentina and Chili), but also a lot of meat. There are whole pigs or cowheads with the eyes still in there hanging from the ceiling. Also without much refrigeration. But chickens are the most popular here, you can buy them in many little shops where whole counters are filled with them.
