• Ciudad Neily – Golfito (Pto. Jimenez): flat. After turnoff flat in the beginning, then hilly
• Pto. Jimenez – Panamericana: about 40 kms (24 miles) flat, then steep hills (up to 11%) till Panamericana
• Intersection Panamericana – Dominical: hilly; small hills
• Dominical – Jacó: flat, closer to Jacó a few small hills
• Jacó – Punta Arenas: very hilly, after Herradura a 4 km (2,5 miles) climb (185 meters/ 555 ft) and then hilly (!! A few kms after Tarcoles is the famous crocodile bridge; standing on the bridge, looking down, you can see many crocs lying around)
• Peninsula Nicoya: mainly flat, a few hills. From about 30 kms (18 miles) after Nicoya
(direction and till Liberia) it gets hilly
• Liberia – border: hilly
